Respite
Care Information
AAQ's respite centres offer a range of services
including centre-based respite and in-home respite.
Services can be offered at flexible times including
evening, overnight and weekends. Please read the
information on each respite centre for details on
specific services at each centre.
Aims
of Respite
The aim of accessing respite for the person with dementia
is to maintain dignity and valued social roles, to
encourage independence and social interaction and to
respect the person with dementia as an individual in
surroundings that are comfortable, safe and secure.
The aim of respite for carers of people with dementia
who receive respite services is to provide the carer
with a break from the caring role and to provide
information and support in regards to their caring
role.
Transport
to centre-based care
Carers are encouraged to bring their family member
to and from the Centre. This ensures ongoing contact
with the Centre and staff. Transport to the Centre
is available in an air-conditioned vehicle if carers
are unable to provide their own transport.
Staff
The Centre Manager is supported by staff who have
been carefully chosen for their experience in the
care of people with dementia. Ongoing training and
education occurs regularly for staff.
Funding
AAQ's respite services are funded under:
the
Home and Community Care (HACC) Program, a joint
Commonwealth/State subsidy, and/or
the
National Respite for Carers Program (NRCP), a
Commonwealth subsidy.
