The Gordon Park Day Respite Centre is situated on Shamrock Street, Gordon Park,and provides 24 hour, 7 day per week respite care. Take a look at some photos of the respite services, or fill in the respite referral form to apply for somebody you care for to visit the centre.

Centre-Based Care

Centre-based care or respite provides a break for the person with dementia and their carer. Respite care may be for part of a day or a few separate days in the week. Flexible hours include opportunities for weekend, early mornings and evening respite.

Centre-based care for employed carers is available from 5am - 8am and 8pm - 11pm to enable working carers to prepare for and complete their work commitments.

In-Home Respite

In-home respite provides an in-home companion to interact with the person with dementia, in their own home, for a period while the carer takes a break.

Overnight in-home care is available for people with dementia with high care needs.

In-home support provides employed carers with assistance to prepare and leave for work, to meet their employment commitments.

Overnight Cottage Respite

Overnight cottage respite (centre-based care) in a home like environment is available for carers. The length of stay may vary according to individual needs. Overnight cottage respite is available for people with dementia with high care needs.

Social Support

Social support provides an opportunity for the person with dementia to access community activities of their choice while being supported by appropriately qualified staff. These activities may be social, recreational or domestic in nature.

Mobile Day Respite

The Gordon Park Respite Centre currently operates one mobile respite service as an outreach service in the suburb of Bardon. For more information on this service click here.

Carer Support

Carer meetings are a valuable way of obtaining information and receiving support. Other supports such as library services, education and information sessions, forums and 24 hour helpline services are available.

Client Eligibility

Clients are eligible to attend the respite care if they have a medical diagnosis of dementia and they are a resident of, or visitor to the Brisbane North Region.

Referrals

Referrals will be accepted from Medical Practitioners, Community Nurses, family and friends, or any other community contacts. An appointment will then be made to discuss service options.

Fees

All nominated fees are negotiable. Access to services will not be determined by an inability to meet the nominated fees. All financial matters should be discussed with Centre Management and will be treated as confidential.

Centre-based care:

A $25.00 for up to an 8 hour day. Additional hours of centre-based care are available at $10.00 per hour

In-home care and social support:

In-home care and social support is $20.00 per hour

Overnight respite:

The overnight fee is $50.00. This includes meals, personal care services and assistance with authorised medication

Please note: Special activities away from the centre may incur a small additional cost.

Unfunded Services

A number of non-subsidised support services are available. Please discuss these options with the Centre Manager.
