The
online courses are starting soon! Dementia education
conducted by the Alzheimer's Association of Queensland
updates professional carers, nursing home staff, respite
staff, counsellors, and carers of a person with dementia
or Alzheimer's Disease. The Association will soon
offer three accredited courses for family carers and
professional service providers.
BASIC
DEMENTIA MANAGEMENT
This
course is designed to meet the professional development
needs of those providing care to people with dementia.
Subjects explored throughout the course include the
meaning of dementia, some causes of dementia, how
challenging behaviour is caused by organic changes
in the brain, communicating with people with dementia,
and understanding strategies to manage some of the
challenging behaviours.
..
SOCIAL FACE OF DEMENTIA
This
course aims to refocus the care of the person with
dementia in the context of their social structure.
The impact of dementia on the community and the social
networks which are the foundation of care offered
are addressed. Subjects explored include elder abuse,
early onset dementia, and legal issues.
..
A family carer, community organisation, or faculty
may not desire a formalised education program on dementia.
A customised course can be delivered by the Association
to meet individual needs more appropriately. See workshops
and seminars for more details.
